The Romans left religious altars all over Scotland so we know what gods they worshipped. Here are some of the Gods named on altars found in Scotland.
- Jupiter the Leader of the Gods
- Juno the Goddess of women and wife to Jupiter
- Minerva the Goddess of wisdom and the arts
- Neptune the God of Water
- Mercury the God of Communication
- Mars the God of War
- Fortuna the Goddess of Fate
- Victory the Goddess of victory
- Hercules the God of strength and heroism
The BBC have an excellent film on this – Did the Romans believe in a god?

Some oriental gods were also worshipped in Britain. A temple to Mithras, a Persian God was found in Musselburgh. A temple to Isis, the Egyptian goddess, was restored in London about 250 AD.
