The Antonine Wall was built in 142 AD and ran from Glasgow to Bo’Nes near Edinburgh creating a barrier between the Highlands and central Scotland. There was a fort every few miles.

At this time, Cramond Roman Fort was built, and German troops from Xanten built St Johns Road and Glasgow Road, leaving a milestone stating this.
The Romans used auxiliary troops from many countries to build the Antonine Wall and at Cramond French and Belgian soldiers were stationed. The Cugerni German tribe were in Corstorphine building the Roman Road past what is now the airport.
